Mike Holmes Lends Support to Building Safety Month
Month-long campaign in May aims to raise awareness of energy, fire, disaster and backyard safety.
The International Code Council Foundation (ICC Foundation) announced today that Mike Holmes, HGTV Celebrity, will serve as the 2012 Honorary Ambassador for the 32nd annual Building Safety Month.
Holmes, star of HGTV’s Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspections, will kick off Building Safety Month on April 27 with a satellite media tour on the first anniversary of the 2011 Tuscaloosa tornado outbreak.
Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign with useful consumer information to help families understand the importance of a strong and resilient built environment especially in light of the death of destruction that follows natural disasters. The four weeks of the campaign provide common sense consumer tips for Energy & Green Building, Disaster Safety & Mitigation, Fire Safety & Awareness, and Backyard Safety.
Holmes will raise awareness of the importance of building codes and how they protect families by providing information to ensure places where they live, work and play are safe and sustainable.
Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign offered each year during May to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create and sustain safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system. Building Safety Month is marked each year by 50,000 International Code Council Members through official ceremonies, community outreach events, demonstration projects and school-based programs.
Last year, President Barack Obama issued the first-ever Presidential Proclamation declaring May as National Building Safety Month.
