$1.3 Billion Florida SunRail Project to Break Ground this Month

Construction of first phase of $1.3 billion project will span 31 miles.


Central Florida's 61-mile SunRail project is set to break ground on Jan. 27. Construction of the first phase of the $1.3 billion project will span 31 miles. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., unveiled an initiative that hopes to bring together the government, education, business and development communities to create jobs near the first 12 planned transit stops to assure that the rail project and related development are in line with the area's planning efforts.

Construction for the first phase of the $1.3 billion, 61-mile SunRail project is scheduled to begin with an official groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 27 at the site of the future Altamonte Springs platform across from city hall, state transportation officials confirmed on Jan. 11.

The first 31-mile phase of SunRail will travel from DeBary in Volusia County to Sand Lake Road in Orlando.
