Measurement: Bosch D-tect 120 Wall/Floor Scanner

Confidence is important in any business, but it's particularly key when the job is drilling in expensive building materials with delicate wires or pipes lurking on the other side. That's no time for guesswork. Enter the Bosch D-tect 120, an easy-to-use detector with reliable radar technology that delivers consistent results.

The D-tect 120 features Spot Detection technology that can detect objects instantly when placed on a wall or floor. It not only detects objects that are right below it, but also indicates to the user through arrows the direction of nearby objects. The spot scan is particularly helpful in situations where scanning is difficult - such as brick walls or tight spaces.

Electronic "traffic light" indicators make detection straightforward and simple to understand with the Bosch D-tect 120: Green, nothing detected; orange, something is close; red, object detected. And because the unit never needs calibration, it's ready to go the instant it's switched on so the user can focus on the task at hand without worrying about the accuracy of the detector. That saves time and increases productivity on the job.

"Detection is a serious business on the jobsite," said Prerna Srivastava, product manager, line lasers, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. "D-tect 120 is a radar-based scanner that detects through multiple materials. Its simplified user interface makes it easy to determine what is behind the wall or concrete. Let's just say it's spot on."

Varied Applications, Added Flexibility

The Bosch D-tect 120 can be used in a variety of applications in three modes: drywall, universal and concrete. And the device offers sound as well as light to alert the user to when something is detected behind a wall, a panel or under flooring. An ergonomic design offers easy access to the smallest of spaces.

The drywall mode is set as the default detection mode since it covers the majority of applications in the North American market. It's optimized for drywall and similar construction materials. The universal mode should be used when the wall material is unknown or consists of multiple layers of different materials. And the concrete mode is optimized for concrete and similar materials; its primary use is to search for rebar.

Other features of the Bosch D-tect 120 include an unshielded AC warning to avoid drilling into live wires, a center finder to indicate an object's center for locating precision and measuring depth up to 4-3/4". Detection of all materials includes water-filled plastic pipes.

Typical users of the Bosch D-tect 120 include remodelers, installers, electricians, plumbers and HVAC professionals. Applications include anything that requires drilling, from installing cabinets and counters, tracing power supply lines, finding sockets and distribution boxes, fitting pipes, tubes and sprinkler systems; to fitting heating and air conditioning systems.
