Simpson CBTZ Concealed Beam Tie

The new by Simpson Strong-Tie, the industry leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, provides a structural as well as an invisible connection for installations that call for hidden joinery rather than standard beam-to-post connections.

The addition of the CBTZ concealed beam tie to the Simpson Strong-Tie product line provides customers with concealed connector solutions from the post to the beam that offer a clean look for custom outdoor living spaces and other types of wood structures. The product is designed to connect beams and posts ranging from 4xs to 6xs or even larger.

“We recognize that some homeowners want to highlight the beauty of their wood structures by hiding the hardware,” said Sam Hensen, vice president and general manager for Connectors and Lateral Systems. “With this innovative product, contractors can now easily install a connector that delivers structural strength for pergola, patio cover or arbor projects while having the aesthetic look their customer wants.”

As with all Simpson Strong-Tie connector products, the CBTZ is designed with ease of installation in mind. Flattened sides on the tubular CBTZ make it easier for installers to lay the part on the beam or post to mark where holes need to be drilled. Locator tabs help with proper positioning so it lines up with the layout of dowel pin holes.

In addition to the CBTZ, the concealed connection product line includes:

  • CPTZ concealed post base, featuring a knife-plate connection with 1" standoff that reduces potential for decay while satisfying code requirements related to weather and water splash
  • CJT concealed joist tie, which also features a knife-plate and dowel connection. The CJT can be installed in three different ways: with no routing of header/post or beam, with a routed header or post, or with a routed beam.
