What do dads want for Father's Day?

Rockler surveys the top 10 gifts.

Power tools dominate the list of the Top 10 items that “DIY Dads” say they want for Father’s Day, according to a recent survey by Rockler Woodworking and Hardware.

Taking the top spot was a planer, which is used to mill boards to a particular thickness, while such workshop staples as a table saw, miter saw and band saw also made the Top 5. If those items seem like a stretch for the budget, the survey revealed another good option — a gift card was the second most wished-for item.

The results are based on responses to a survey that Rockler — one of the nation’s leading suppliers of DIY tools, hardware and supplies — sent to nearly 11,000 self-identified do-it-yourself dads.

“We wanted to take the guesswork out of Father’s Day gift giving by asking do-it-yourself dads what they actually want,” said Scott Ekman, Rockler’s vice president for marketing. “The survey identifies can’t-miss gift ideas that any DIY Dad would be excited to receive.”

"Rounding out" the Top 10 are a router, dust collection equipment, tools in general, lumber for projects and a woodturning lathe. A variety of options for all items on the list, as well as other gift ideas, are available at Rockler stores, on rockler.com and through the Rockler catalog. Rockler also has put together a Father’s Day Gift Guide at rockler.com/gift-guide.
