FastenMaster Extends Coating Line

FastenMaster has introduced Ground Contact Coating to extend the life of pressure treated lumber used in deck and fence posts, and other outdoor applications.

The new coating extends the life of pressure treated wood by protecting against ground rot. The formula goes on white so contractors can see what’s been coated and dries clear to preserve the original color and texture of the wood, allowing natural patterns and characteristics to remain visible.

Formulated with 1% Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT) to resist insects and fungus, the new Ground Contact Coating is a long-lasting water-based acrylic membrane that repels the elements that cause ground rot.

“Homeowner expectations for the lifespan of outdoor projects have risen alongside advances in composite decking, increasing pressure on contractors to address durability challenges associated with wood, particularly with moisture-prone areas such as posts, stair stringers, and more,” said Nikki Long, vice president of the structural business unit at FastenMaster. “Our Ground Contact Coating helps extend the lifespan of wood where it is most vulnerable to premature failure, bringing the wood substructure longevity more in line with composite surfaces designed to perform for decades.”

Ground Contact Coating comes in 1/2-gallon buckets which covers 40 square feet, equal to 14 6x6 wood posts. The coating is applied with a standard bristle paint brush or a 3/8-inch nap roller.

Prior to curing, the coating can be easily cleaned up with soap and warm water.
