Kraft and red rosin paper have been standard materials for protecting flooring in the construction, painting and remodeling industries. Millions of square feet are used on a yearly basis to protect surfaces. Yet, neither of these construction papers provide any type of impact resistance, an element that is a common necessity in a jobsite environment. Imagine dropping a hammer, 2 x 4 or even worse on red rosin. It’s certain that damage is likely to occur.
Surface Shields set out to develop a material that offers tough surface protection in a lighter, more manageable roll. The goal was to provide a solution for those who normally use thin papers to protect jobsite flooring and want some form of impact resistance. Many of those buyers aren’t looking to make the complete jump to standard Builder Board at a thickness of 45 pt.
The result was Builder Board Project Edition and it has officially been released this month. At 22 pt., it’s nearly 3 times thicker than rosin papers and provides breathable, impact resistant protection for months. As the newest member of the Builder Board family, Project Edition is commonly used for residential projects. Still, it is tough enough to perform in a commercial environment due to its ability to resist tearing that occurs in rosin and kraft papers.
For those looking to protect floors that are curing, Project Edition is completely breathable and bonds well with Builder Board Breathable Tape. It’s also equally water resistant when compared to its “big brother,” Builder Board.
The Builder Board line of products now includes 4 items that all have unique specifications and uses for any type of project. Traditional Builder Board is for those seeking maximum floor protection, primarily for large commercial projects. Project Edition is ideal for smaller residential and DIY jobs. And, there are two tapes available for seaming – Builder Board Breathable Tape and standard Builder Board Seam Tape.
Surface Shields is manufacturing this item in a width of 35 inches and lengths of 50 and 100 feet. Look for Project Edition to “pop up” in showrooms and on shelves aside traditional Builder Board throughout 2016, as distributors stock this exciting new product. Learn More at www.surfaceshields.com
