Safety Equipment: Capital Safety Nano-Lok Arc Flash Self-Retracting Lifeline

Capital Safety, home of the DBI-SALA and PROTECTA brands of fall protection equipment, introduces an important addition to its popular Nano-Lok product line – the DBI-SALA Nano-Lok Arc Flash Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL). The first-of-its-kind SRL is designed to provide a safe and reliable fall protection connection for all utilities and electric markets, as well as welding, cutting and torching applications.

The Nano-Lok Arc Flash is extremely versatile, offering users 16 standard Nano-Lok configurations to meet virtually any arc flash or hot work need, and two unique web leg configurations specifically designed for bucket truck and aerial lift applications. It has an electric arc performance of 40 cal/cm2 and has been rigorously tested to meet the ASTM F887-11 arc flash standard, as well as ANSI Z359.14 and all applicable OSHA requirements.

“Those working in the utilities industry face unique safety issues and complex equipment needs. We believe that all workers at height should be protected, so we designed the Nano-Lok Arc Flash to meet those needs without worry,” said Jeff Martin, hard goods senior product manager at Capital Safety. “The new Arc Flash SRL meets the same high quality standards as the original model, but with the added arc flash protection our customers are looking for.”

The Nano-Lok Arc Flash SRL is made of 100 percent Kevlar to offer complete spark and fire resistance, while the NanoSphere coating provides abrasion resistance and a “self-cleaning” effect. At only 1.9 pounds, it is the smallest and most compact SRL on the market, yet can support workers weighing up to 420 pounds.

Other features of the Nano-Lok Arc Flash include:

  • Quick-connect anchorage connector – Attaches directly to the back of most harnesses without requiring a separate carabiner.
  • Swiveling anchorage loop – Limits lifeline twisting for smoother operation.
  • Automatic, quick-activating arrestor – Reduces fall distances to inches with an average arresting force of 900 pounds.
  • Six-foot arc flash rated retractable lifeline – Reduces dragging, snagging and trip falls.
  • 3,600-pound gate hooks – Reduces chances of accidental disengagement.
