Portable Electric Tools: Hougen HMD925S Mag Drill

Holemaking innovations from HOUGEN include three new portable magnetic drill models and an improved carbide tipped annular cutter.

Hougen Manufacturing (Booth 615) will introduce four new products at the 2009 STAFDA Convention in Atlanta. In the spotlight: The HMD914S portable magnetic drill with its unique, patented swivel base drill-to-magnet coupling provides convenience and precise hole positioning. This versatile workhorse is ideal for challenging fabrication jobs involving horizontal or overhead/inverted drilling where supporting and energizing the magnet while locating the drill can be awkward.

Sharing the limelight: The HMD925S power feed patented swivel base portable magnetic drill for precise and repetitive heavy-duty holemaking with a swivel base coupling pivots up to a 1-1/8? side to side and 1-3/8? front to back. Operators can fine tune drill positions and precisely locate hole center points, with final adjustments easily made in any position.

Also featured: The HMD508 high-speed quill feed portable magnetic drill provides no-load RPMs of 450 and 750 rates for use with carbide tip annular cutters including Hougen’s Copperhead Cutters. Its patented quill feed design  provides fast, smooth feed into and through the cut, especially in deep hole drilling with no need for gib and slide adjustments or arbor support brackets.

The fourth featured product: Hougen’s new Copperhead Fusion Carbide Tip Cutters with groove innovation shanks for use in magnetic drills with tool-less arbors.  The shanks also have two set screw flats to fit all other magnetic drill arbors which can result in up to 2X the tool life as tool-less systems. Copperhead cutters offer extended tool life on abrasive and tough to cut materials and demanding applications while their special tooth geometry helps maintain superior chip flow over other styles of carbide tipped cutters.
