Adhesives & Sealants: Rockler Nexabond Wood Adhesive

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced Nexabond Wood Adhesive, a glue that provides do-it-yourselfers with a longer open time than traditional cyanoacrylate (CA) glue, yet still bonds in just a few minutes and cures completely in approximately one hour. The glue only needs to be applied to one of the joining pieces, which results in use of up to four times less volume as compared to conventional wood glue.

A cured Nexabond glue joint is stronger than the wood itself, meaning that the wood will fail before the glue will. For its innovative properties, Nexabond has been awarded the 2013 Visionary Award from the Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS).

"Nexabond helps woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers get projects done quickly," says Steve Krohmer, Rockler's Vice President of Product Marketing. "It offers enough open time to get the pieces just right, but dries quickly to free up clamps and allow sanding and finishing once it's cured. It also accepts most finishes, which makes the final result look that much better."

Nexabond is available in 1 oz. and 4 oz. sizes in either short (1-3 minutes) or medium (3-5 minutes) bonding times. The quick bonding time frees up clamps to be used in the next application and is also quick enough for pieces to be held in place by hand that cannot be clamped.

With no activator required, it is ready to use right out of the bottle. It has a thicker consistency than CA glue, eliminating runs and drips. Unlike most wood glues, Nexabond contains no solvents — not even water — so the wood won't swell. It can be sanded immediately after curing without worrying about sunken joint lines due to shrinkage.

Nexabond in the 1 oz. size with short handling time (49888) or medium handling time (44197) retails for $7.99, while the 4 oz. size with short handling time (44688) or medium handling time (44128) retails for $16.99.

All can be purchased at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware stores nationwide, Rockler independent resellers, Rockler.com, or from the Rockler catalog. For store locations or a free catalog, please visit www.rockler.com or call 1-877-ROCKLER.
