Simpson SDWS Framing Screws

Simpson Strong-Tie has expanded its Strong-Drive line of structural fasteners to include the SDWS Framing screw, a multipurpose fastener designed and load-rated for replacing nails in framing and remodeling applications.

This versatile fastener offers a new alternative to 16d, 10d and 8d nails for contractors and do-it-yourselfers in areas too constrained for the use of a hammer or where there is a need for the superior holding power and pull-out resistance of screws.

In addition to its many general uses, the Strong Drive SDWS Framing screw is code-listed under IAPMO UES ER-192 and meets 2009 and 2012 IRC and IBC code requirements for common wood framing applications.

“This is such a versatile screw and can be used for so many construction applications that we think it will become the ‘go-to’ screw for contractors and DIYers alike,” said Dr. Edward Sutt, vice president of Fastening Systems. “We see the SDWS Framing Screw as not only a superior alternative in many framing applications, but also as a great solution for indoor and outdoor projects. It’s easy to drive, fast to install and offers vastly superior holding power than nails.”

Key features of the Strong-Drive SDWS Framing screw include:

  • SawTooth Type-17 point with serrated threads that provides fast installations with reduced torque and no pre-drilling
  • Specially designed head countersinks easily to provide a clean, flush finish
  • Quik Guard coating provides extra corrosion protection in exterior applications and preservative treated wood.
  • T25 bit holds the 6-lobe recess tightly, reducing cam-out and head stripping.

In addition, the SDWS Framing screw is available in commonly used 2 ½” and 3” lengths for extra versatility. For more information, visit strongtie.com/sdwsframing.
