Threaded Fasteners: Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screws

Simpson Strong Tie now offers the new patent-pending Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screw. When used with the Quik Drive BSD200 Structural Steel-Decking system, the Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screw offers a convenient alternative to other methods of attaching steel decking, such as welding and powder-actuated tools (P.A.T.).

Simpson Strong Tie now offers the new patent-pending Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screw. Engineered as a one-for-one screw replacement option for pins and 5/8” welds in steel decking, it enables installers to keep the same spacing and easily substitute screws for pins and welds.

When used with the Quik Drive BSD200 Structural Steel-Decking system, the Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screw offers a convenient alternative to other methods of attaching steel decking, such as welding and powder-actuated tools (P.A.T.).

The tool’s extension enables stand-up-and-drive fastening to save time and reduce worker fatigue.

Collated fastener strips eliminate fastener waste, and the patented Quik Drive auto-feed mechanism provides hands-free screw advancement, eliminating the need to handle individual screws.

In addition, no special inspection or certifications are necessary as with welding and powder-actuated tools.

“This new Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screw is the only fastener on the market that has loads and spacing equal to P.A.T. pins and 5/8 inch welds,” said Ed Sutt, Vice President, Fastening Systems at Simpson Strong-Tie.

“With screws, there are also no under-driven pins at four-layer deck corners. Using screws is more cost effective than welding because there is no need for welding leads, welding rod, portable welders, fuel and certified welders,” he added.

The Strong-Drive XL Large-Head Metal Screws are available in bulk as well as collated for use with the Quik Drive system. Quik Drive Systems come with a limited lifetime warranty (for more information, see strongtie.com/warranty). To learn more about the Strong-Drive fasteners, visit www.strongtie.com/fasteners.
