Cologne Show Announces 2014 EISEN Award Winners

Global tool show names best tools of the year.

A highlight of the International Hardware Fair Cologne, held March 9-12, 2014 is the announcement of the biannual EISEN competition. These "best in show" awards recognize product innovation and corporate sustainability efforts.

Innovation and sustainable manufacturing processes assure the future and competitiveness of the tool industry. The International Hardware Fair jury initially selected 13 nominees from over 80 entries. Six companies were ultimately presented with awards. The prizes were awarded at the Welcome Party of the EISENWARENMESSE - International Hardware Fair.

The Central Association of the Hardware Trade e.V. (ZHH), Koelnmesse awarded the EISEN 2014 Innovation Award and the Construction, Home Improvement and Garden Trade Association e.V. (BHB) selected the CSR Award.

Winners of the EISEN 2014 Innovation Award include:

Lockhard Alulift (Alulock):
"The Alulift enables the safe assembly and dismantling of scaffolding with a lift function and thus greatly facilitates the work. It is a simple alternative to scissor lifts."

MasterCut (P.F. FREUND & CIE.):
"'Form follows function' applies here: the tool development was scientifically supported with the result that the cutter has no similarity at all to comparable products. It facilitates the work because very little physical effort is needed. The new design is a real innovation!"

Gedore extension with a retention magnet (GEDORE Tool Center):
"An innovation can also take on an inconspicuous form - the product makes magnetic nuts superfluous, the extension replaces them. Very practical and very useful."

Leica DISTO D810 touch (Leica Geosystems):
"The measuring device stands out because of its touchscreen and high-tech, which enables the determination of distances and calculation of surfaces and volumes based on a photo. The jury is convinced that it will impress every craftsmen, architect and plumber."

For their sustainability concepts, which unite commercial success with social responsibility and environmentally-friendly operations, Izar Cutting Tools and Knipex-Werk C. Gustav Putsch were both presented the EISEN 2014 CSR Award.

Izar Cutting Tools:
The company Izar Cutting Tools, which is owned by the workforce, places the focus of its corporate management on ethical principles and social responsibility. The company served as the role model for a survey of the European Parliament on the "Financial Participation of the Employees (EEP). Every two years, Izar Cutting Tools publishes a sustainability report in line with the 'Global Reporting Initiative' requirements, which presents a transparent summary of the company's influence on the economy, society and environment and covers as such all three areas of sustainability.

Knipex-Werk C. Gustav Putsch:
"CSR is an integral part of the corporate philosophy for KNIPEX. KNIPEX has integrated taking responsibility for the environment and society into all of its business processes - from the promotion and motivation of its employees, to the establishment of sustainability standards across the supply chain, the transition over to green power, the implementation of photovoltaics on the factory roofs and electric automobiles as fleet vehicles, 80 percent waste recycling, voluntary commitment in the region, through to a stable and systematically implemented business model."
