World of Concrete sets positive tone for construction industry

Initial reports estimate 1,400 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees.

World of Concrete 2010World of Concrete 2010 which concludes today in Las Vegas has by most on-the-ground reports set a positive tone for the construction industry heading into building season.

Show promoters said more than 1,400 exhibtors were at the show. Gut-feeling estimates of attendees ranged from 45,000 to the mid-50,000s.

Overall, most attendees felt they had largely unhindered access to key manufacturer personnel. In the show's three interior exhibit halls, foot traffic was steady if patchy at times. Manufacturers and contractors alike expressed "cautious optimism" that the housing industry would begin to rebound in Q2, buoyed by ongoing government and municipal projects.

There are exceptions to the optimism: most industry professionals interviewed said commercial construction remains missing in action and likely will remain so through at least Q3 if not Q4.
