LIQUID NAILS Goes on TV
Designing Spaces TV show features LIQUID NAILS lessons for DIY projects.
Maintenance and upgrades are important for retaining the value and beauty of any home. On an upcoming episode of Designing Spaces, LIQUID NAILS Adhesive senior brand manager Mike Goldstein explains the benefits of using adhesives to get DIY projects done right the first time.
Designing Spaces is a half-hour home decorating television program that airs on TLC and WeTV. The LIQUID NAILS Adhesives segment will air on WeTV on April 2 at 7:30 a.m. and on TLC on April 3 at 7 a.m.
"Adhesives can be used in applications where mechanical fasteners are not practical," Goldstein said. "For example, mechanical fasteners, like nails or screws, provide a means for moisture to pass through the panels of tile board in a kitchen or bathroom."
In addition, adhesives provide a better appearance and faster application than mechanical fasteners in some instances, including the installation of trim and moldings.
Adhesives can also be more forgiving than mechanical fasteners during installation. With adhesives, pieces being installed can be moved and readjusted, which is difficult to do with nails and screws.
On the show, Goldstein demonstrates how LIQUID NAILS Brand adhesives can help with common DIY projects, and explains that not all adhesives work the same.
Installing Molding. Using adhesives to install molding provides the benefit of adjustability for up to 10 minutes after installation. Goldstein recommends using LIQUID NAILS Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive (LN-903) for this purpose. This adhesive works well on wainscoting and PVC exterior molding.
"DIYers who have never used adhesives before shouldn't be intimidated by the process," Goldstein said. "When installing molding, apply the adhesive one inch from the edge in an s-shaped bead."
The adhesive will have a good initial set within four to six hours and will be thoroughly dry after 24 hours.
Fixing Squeaking Steps. Squeaking steps is an issue in many homes. On the show, Goldstein walks viewers through the process of fixing squeaky deck steps, which have likely become loose from expansion and contraction due to hot and cold temperatures, or from holes which have expanded over time due to deck traffic.
For this application, Goldstein recommends using LIQUID NAILS extreme temperature Subfloor and Deck Construction Adhesive (LN-902). DIYers should unscrew the steps, apply a straight bead of adhesive onto each step, put the steps back into place and replace the fasteners.
Adhesives help lessen the force on the fasteners providing a longer lasting, more durable bond and virtually eliminating squeaking. This product adheres to treated lumber and composite decking. It will have a good bond after four to six hours, and will be fully cured after 24 hours.

Small repairs. Adhesives are also great for fixing small items around the house. Home Projects Adhesive works well on wood, foam, rubber and paper.
