New Republican governors threaten to derail bullet trains

With several states swinging to Republican governors, key elements of President Barack Obama's program — including federal stimulus dollars for high-speed rail and other projects — are under threat.


Andy Kunz, president of the U.S. High Speed Rail Association, said Obama would have to rally newcomers around rail as President Dwight Eisenhower did with the interstate highway system in the 1950s. High-speed rail is still at "this early, vulnerable stage," he said.
