Delmar and ICC Announce Guide to Changes to A117.1 Accessibility Standard

Focuses on most critical and frequently used provisions, and those that have had a significant change in application.

Delmar and the International Code Council (ICC), the publisher of the International Building Codes and the A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities Standard, today announced the publication of Significant Changes to the A117.1 Accessibility Standard, 2009 Edition by Jay Woodward.

It is critical for professionals in the building industry to keep current in their understanding of accessibility standards and this title identifies significant changes in the 2009 edition of the ICC A117.1 standard. The discussion of the changes explain when they were made to coordinate with or where they differ from the Americans with Disabilities Act and the accessibility items in the 2009 International Building Code® that can affect the application. This resource provides the rationale behind those changes and focuses on the most critical provisions, the most frequently used provisions, and provisions that have had a significant change in application. Each change is accompanied by a photograph, a real-world example, or an illustration, and is followed by a summary and analysis.

Significant Changes to the A117.1 Accessibility Standard, 2009 Edition aims to familiarize building officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, and anyone in the building construction industry with the many important accessibility-related changes that have occurred in the 2009 A117.1 Standard and that will be applicable when using the International Building Code®.

"With more than 25 years of experience in building design, construction, code enforcement and instruction, author Jay Woodward addresses issues of code application and design for code enforcement personnel, architects and designers," said Greg Clayton, vice president, Delmar. "This is an excellent resource for professionals in the building trades industry. Significant changes between codes are easy to find as they are highlighted throughout the text, and the 'Change Significance' section allows readers to understand the importance of each change."
