Techspray Adds QR Codes to Products

New safety feature will be available on all chemical product packages by the end of 2012.

Techspray introduces a cutting-edge new safety feature that will be available on all chemical product packages by the end of 2012. QR Codes are being added, which provide near-instant access, with web-accessible smart phones and pads, to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and technical data sheets.

When Techspray’s QR Codes are scanned, users are immediately brought to the Techspray mobile website page for that specific product. Once there, MSDS and data sheets can be viewed or e-mailed. This provides immediate and easy access to personal protection recommendations, chemical properties, NFPA and HMIS ratings, and other critical information. QR Codes help customers maintain OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) compliance, which requires that MSDS are readily available for all chemicals in use at a facility.

A QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a matrix bar code that can encode over 4,000 characters, ideal for fast access to web addresses. Free programs available for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Droid-based phones and other smart phones, read QR Codes and automatically open encoded web addresses.

Techspray’s new labels with QR Codes give industrial customers instant access to the latest documentation at an ideal time. March 20, 2012, OSHA announced the final rule updating OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard to align with the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. This change will further burden industrial chemical users with new documentation standards over the next several years.

The goal is to make technical specifications, instructions, and MSDS as accessible as possible. The mobile site uses the same database backbone as Techspray’s website, so it is guaranteed to be the most up-to-date information available. Techspray’s Senior Product Manager, Kevin Pawlowski, stated, “Safety has always been a major focus for Techspray. Product labels with QR Codes should help our customers keep better documentation and respond faster in emergency situations.”

Techspray’s mobile website can be access at http://mobile.techspray.com. The full Techspray website (http://www.techspray.com) is also available for use with a computer or pad, where you have a larger screen. That site provides additional sales support like presentations, document libraries, distributor look-up, and rep look-up.
