Former president of Champion Cutting Tool Corp. has passed away.


Leon Frey, former president of Champion Cutting Tool, passed away on July 8, 2012 at the age of 79. It is with great sorrow that we report the death of Leon H. Frey, who passed away on July 8, 2012, at the age of 79. Leon resided in Delray, Florida and was an industry icon who was well respected by all who knew him.

Leon was born in Bronx, New York, attended Columbia University, and is survived by wife Vivian of 58 years, and son Lowell.

Champion Cutting Tool Corp. has served professionals with industrial grade products and services since 1897. During WWII, the company supplied the U.S. military.

After the war, Champion added numerous products and expanded its territories westward.

Leon Frey joined the company in the 1960s and is credited with developing the Brute XL5 twist drill, a heavy-duty jobber drill famed for fast drilling and long life in stainless steel.

From 1964 through 2005, he was president of Champion Cutting Tool Corp. Widely recognized for his intelligence and wit, Leon contributed to the community in many ways, and served as a trustee on the board of South Nassau Communities Hospital.

Today, the company’s product range includes twist drills, end mills, taps, dies, cutters, power tools and masonry tools. Champion Cutting Tool Corp.'s distribution network serves cutting tool users in all 50 U.S. states, and is expanding internationally.
