Master Builders: LEGO Technic Cars, Trucks and Robots

New coffee table book showcases the finest in LEGO Technic projects.

Inspiring future generations of builders is no easy task but Lego has been doing it for generations. Now, just in time for the holidays (imagine that), a gorgeous new coffee table book showcases what talented minds can do with mere "building blocks."

In the hands of masters, the LEGO Technic line of beams, gears, and motors can be used to build striking models of machines and vehicles as sophisticated and sleek as their real-life counterparts—think supercars, semitrucks, Formula 1 racers, tugboats, tractors, and more.

Now, for the first time, a new book from San Francisco-based independent publisher No Starch Press has assembled some of the world's finest LEGO Technic models in Incredible LEGO Technic (Nov 2014, 280 pp., $29.95, 4C, ISBN 9781593275877). This coffee table-worthy gallery showcases LEGO engineering at its finest.

Curated by LEGO master Paweł "Sariel" Kmieć, arguably the world's most popular LEGO Technic builder (with more than 20 million YouTube views), Incredible LEGO Technic features impressive fan-created models of monster trucks, cement mixers, dragline excavators, bulldozers, power shovels, and more.

More than 70 LEGO models are accompanied by design notes and cutaway views that offer readers a close-up look at how the experts use differentials, suspensions, and complex gearing to build working models.

Kmieć set the bar in his previous title, The Unofficial LEGO Technic Builder's Guide, an in-depth course in Technic-based mechanical engineering—a book that Wired.com's GeekDad called "one of those books that just amazes me." Kmieć's own Technic models have been featured on Top Gear, Gizmodo, Boing Boing, Engadget, and TechCrunch.

Incredible LEGO Technic will be available in fine bookstores everywhere this November. A great holiday gift for a youngster you know — or for yourself!
