Virtual Vision 3D wins industry award

3D laser scanner for CNC modeling wins AWFS award.

Next Wave Automation, located in Perrysburg, OH, recently won a 2017 Visionary Award from the Association of Woodworking & Furnishings Suppliers (AWFS) for Virtual Vision 3D.

Virtual Vision 3D is an affordable and easy-to-use 3D laser scanner that allows the user to quickly map any object - in 3D - that is placed on the CNC table to create a model. Users can then accurately engrave, carve or 3D print using that 3D model. Virtual Vision 3D will be available in early 2018 and can be used with all of Next Wave Automation’s hobbyist and professional CNC machines.

“Virtual Vision 3D has the ability to not only detect something that is on the table, it can three-dimensionally determine its center and find edges to allow automatic alignments that make setups virtually nonexistent,” says Tim Owens, Next Wave Automation founder and CEO. “Without Virtual Vision 3D, set-ups for extensive tooling require CAD drawings and other, costly means of creating a 3D model. Now, with Virtual Vision 3D, users can simply place an object onto the CNC table and press scan.”

The Visionary New Product Awards recognize creativity and innovation as well as leadership in green/environmental product development. Entries were evaluated on quality, production impact, practicality, innovation and user-friendliness. This year’s awards, chosen by a panel of hand-selected judges representing various areas of the industry, including professional end-users, woodworkers and company owners, were announced at the 2017 AWFS Fair held in Las Vegas, July 19-22, 2017. Virtual Vision 3D won the Product Innovation Visionary Award in Software.

Virtual Vision 3D uses multiple lasers and cameras to actually create a 3D model down to a few thousandths of an inch. This is technology that used to cost tens of thousands of dollars. Virtual Vision 3D works directly with Next Wave Automation’s virtual zero technology which auto-levels a surface as complicated as a rough-hewn log. It allows the user to immediately apply any machining to that log without having to do a complicated set up. Virtual Vision 3D is accurate enough to represent even delicate carvings and render them in real time with no advanced technical training required.

Virtual Vision 3D will be available in early 2018 at an estimated MSRP of $1,000.00, which is significantly lower than any other scanner currently on the market.
