Rockler releases DIY cabinet pullout shelf project and videos

Quick Fix videos cover cabinet improvements and maintenance.

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has launched a series of resources to help DIYers enhance or repair their existing cabinets. The first is a free "Build It with Rockler" Pullout Shelf Plan featuring a drawer box with over-travel slides. Next, is a series of three short "Quick Fix" videos detailing the addition a soft-close option for existing drawers, removal of stripped screws and replacement of loose screws.

Pullout shelves provides convenient access to the contents of a cabinet. This project incorporates drawer box construction, as well as installation of cleats and slides. DIYers can build a custom-sized pullout shelf to fit any cabinet. The complete plan and additional project information are available at

"We are constantly finding ways to teach old cabinets new tricks. One of those is the addition of pullout shelves, which gives cabinets a whole new dimension of functionality," said Scott Ekman, Rockler's vice president of marketing. "Extending the life of your existing cabinets is not only financially smart, but it's a rewarding DIY project."

Rockler has also added a trio of cabinet-related "Quick Fix" videos to its website. The first demonstrates how to retrofit existing drawer slides with a soft-close device, which eliminates the possibility of the drawer slamming shut. The other two videos provide solutions for removing stripped screws and replacing screws that have become loose. Links to all three videos can be found at

Rockler also carries a variety of products to give cabinets an aesthetic facelift, including a wide selection of knobs and pulls, painting and finishing supplies and equipment, and a beautiful selection of new wood veneer. These items can be found at Rockler stores nationwide, in the Rockler catalog, and at
