BuildFax Housing Health Report shows declining market in March

Just one indicator, year-over-year single-family housing authorizations, increased.

Today, BuildFax released the latest Housing Health Report for March - which leverages U.S property condition and history data to provide insights into macro – and microeconomics trends affecting the U.S. housing market. BuildFax research revealed that U.S housing activity gradually exposes the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additional findings are:

  • Single-family housing authorizations decreased 2.70% from February to March 2020 – the second consecutive decline related to COVID-19 spread.
  • Increases in single-family housing authorizations likely stem from early March, when a majority of COVID-19 regulations hadn’t yet taken effect.
  • Maintenance and remodeling activity turned down sharply in March.

March was a turning point for the United States as, state by state, the COVID-19 outbreak led to shelter-in-place orders across the nation. As a result, housing activity experienced declines across almost all major housing indicators. Just one indicator, year-over-year single-family housing authorizations, increased.
