Garvin Construction names new CEO, CFO

Outside expertise positions the family-controlled company for growth.

Brian Boyce

Garvin Construction Products, a leading distributor of construction materials in the Northeast, has named two non-family executives to leadership posts for the first time in its 70 years, positioning the family-controlled company for future growth.

The new President and Chief Executive Officer is George Bukuras, a highly credentialed and experienced businessman who is also a CPA and attorney, and the new Chief Financial Officer is Brian Boyce, a CPA who, like Bukuras, began his career at Price Waterhouse.

Both Bukuras and Boyce have been longtime advisors to the company in recent years as it established a management team, adopted systems of governance, bolstered its balance sheet, acquired a minority interest in the Company held by others, and navigated through the pandemic without losing a single job.

With these moves, the Garvins are positioning their business for significant future growth. The Company plans to continue to operate as a family-controlled enterprise.

Bukuras and Boyce offer an abundance of relevant experience that they will devote to building the organization and its leadership team. Aside from his professional experience as a CPA and corporate attorney, Bukuras has a history of having successfully led family-owned businesses in both industrial distribution and manufacturing environments and has considerable mergers and acquisition experience. Boyce, prior to working with Garvin in an advisory capacity, held senior executive finance and accounting positions in high technology, telecommunication, and professional services companies.

“I am flattered and grateful to have been tapped by the Garvin family to be the steward of this impressive company built over generations,” said Bukuras, who for four years has advised Garvin.

Over the course of a career of having been exposed to more than 300 family-owned businesses, Bukuras said it was the Garvin family’s cohesion, individual character and commitment to organizational growth that drew him to the post.

“While GCP is a third-generation business, the entrepreneurial muscle that brought the Company to where it is today was the product of Brendan Sr.’s drive. After taking the reins upon his father’s passing, Brendan propelled this business to impressive new heights. The result of his efforts, is the foundation that provides us now with the opportunity for further growth.”

Brendan P. Garvin, grandson of the founder, will serve as Managing Director focusing on marketing, sales and executive functions for the Company.

“After wearing many hats, I'm eager to focus on marketing initiatives to assist the sales effort to drive top-line growth, while also maintaining close relationships with our valued suppliers,” he said. “I have looked forward to the day when we would be able to attract executives with outside experience to blend with our homegrown talent and experience. George and Brian fit this role perfectly.”

Garvin shared that his brothers Dennis and Brian will also continue to participate in company leadership as Managing Directors assisting the growth effort.  “George has been telling us for years that being a family-controlled enterprise can be a great advantage competing against larger institutional companies. So, the plan moving forward is to play to our Garvin family strengths and leverage that competitive edge.

As a team, with Tony Roselli and Rich Romano, we look forward to taking our Company to its next level of orbit, and thereby create opportunities for all Company stakeholders, but most importantly, for our employees,” Garvin said.

The Company serves its customers throughout the Northeast from its five, fully stocked, warehouses strategically located in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Maryland.
