Marine Toys for Tots Announces Literacy Initiative

Operation Turn the Page will equip countless children with tools they need to break the cycle of poverty.

The Marine Toys for Tots Literacy Program announces our critical literacy initiative, ‘Operation Turn the Page’, that will equip countless children with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty.

Millions of children across the Nation are gearing up to head back to school in August. However, going back to school can look vastly different for students and families who face economic hardships every single day.

Over the summer, children in need may have lost up to one-third of their progress from the previous grade — just because they didn’t have access to books to keep their reading and comprehension skills sharp. With approximately one in six children living at or below the poverty level in our country, the very idea of getting back into the classroom can be intimidating for them.

Your support of ‘Operation Turn the Page’ can help children in need start a new chapter because:

  • 1 in 4 children in America grows up without learning how to read.
  • 33% of 4th graders in our country can’t read at a basic level.
  • 61% of families living in poverty don’t have access to age-appropriate books at home.
  • There is only 1 age-appropriate book per 300 children in low-income neighborhoods.

A better, brighter chapter is possible for economically disadvantaged children when our supporters donate to ‘Operation Turn the Page’. 100% of each donation made to the Toys for Tots Literacy Program will go directly to providing books and educational resources for children in need across the country. Together, we can turn the page on poverty!
