Simpson Strong-Tie Promotes Annie Kao to VP of Strategic Partnerships and Engagement

Kao became the company’s second female Vice President of Engineering in 2019.

Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, has promoted Annie Kao to a newly created position of Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Engagement. Kao has been a member of the Simpson Strong-Tie team for 18 years, most recently serving as Vice President of Engineering.

In her new role, Kao will spearhead the company’s national industry outreach and engagement initiatives; identify and pursue strategic partnerships inside and outside the industry; and engage with trade groups, educational institutions and industry entry programs to help bring new talent to the construction industry.

She also will serve as the company’s primary spokesperson and champion the brand, unique service model and product solutions through strategic advocacy initiatives and thought leadership nurturing.

“This new role is a critical step toward achieving our long-term objectives to continue to foster strong connections within the industry, enhance recognition of our brand and products, and address the labor shortage,” Kao said. “I’m excited to leverage my experience at Simpson Strong-Tie and my passion for the industry to help open up new avenues for engagement and explore collaboration opportunities while helping to develop the next generation of industry innovators.”

Kao’s commitment to leadership and industry development permeates her career as an engineer. She became the company’s second female Vice President of Engineering in 2019, and in October hosted a panel on women in construction leadership for the Strong Conversations podcast.

Kao is active in her professional and local communities, including serving as a director for the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) and helping to found the SEAOSC Women in Structural Engineering Committee.

Kao is actively involved in resilient construction and seismic retrofitting and received the 2019 Barc Simpson Community Hero Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteer contributions by Simpson Strong-Tie employees in their communities. She currently serves on the Habitat for Humanity East Bay Board of Directors.

“With an exceptional background in engineering and industry outreach, Annie brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly elevate our company’s brand and product visibility while cultivating and reinforcing industry relationships, strategic partnerships and an expanded talent pool,” said Mike Olosky, Simpson Strong-Tie President and Chief Executive Officer.

“We are confident that with Annie's expertise, strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership, we will not only strengthen our external partnerships but also foster internal growth and engagement.”

Kao has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
