As regulatory standards for wastewater disposal tighten across the globe, the demand for pumps and equipment capable of enduring harsh fluids is on the rise. Tsurumi has been at the forefront of meeting this need, with its pumps proving their mettle in a diverse array of challenging wastewater applications.
The company continually enhances its pump construction in response to evolving requirements, integrating stronger materials to bolster corrosion resistance and overall durability.
Tsurumi’s approach involves leveraging materials like stainless steel and titanium to engineer pumps with significantly heightened strength and corrosion resilience. This proactive strategy ensures the company stays aligned with the changing necessities of several industries, especially those grappling with the relentless demands of managing harsh fluids. These fluids encompass everything from chemically laden water to low-PH corrosive acidic solutions and seawater.
“As discharge regulations become more stringent worldwide, the demand for pumps manufactured with specialized materials is expected to surge year after year,” said Bryan Nelson, northeast regional sales manager at Tsurumi. “Tsurumi offers a wide range of solutions to support the wastewater, manufacturing, and mining industries with their most difficult applications.”
Stainless steel is renowned for its ability to resist oxidization, while titanium can withstand deterioration caused by saltwater. Additionally, stainless steel’s sanitary properties render it ideal for applications in food processing and hygiene-sensitive environments, ensuring compliance with rigorous regulations. Tsurumi’s corrosion-resistant pumps integrate these materials across all components exposed to fluids, including the impeller, casing, motor frame, outer cover, strainer stand, bend, flange, and sealing parts.
Tsurumi pumps made of 316 stainless steel casting include LH, LHW and SFQ series pumps. The SQ Series is constructed from 304 stainless steel, while the TM Series is crafted from titanium. The TM Series, made from a combination of resin and titanium, stands out as a submersible pump uniquely suited for handling seawater, making it indispensable for applications near oceans and saltwater lakes.
“Titanium’s exceptional corrosion resistance and impressive strength-to-weight ratio make it indispensable in specialized applications where conventional materials fall short,” Nelson added.
Additionally, cast iron is another cornerstone material in some of Tsurumi’s most durable pumps, prized for its robustness and impact resistance. Cast iron sump pumps represent enduring, long-term investments, capable of withstanding high temperatures with minimal risk of internal shock. This material also offers cost efficiency and expedited manufacturing processes, adding to its appeal.
“Cast iron is a time-tested material characterized by its long life and durability,” Nelson said. “Its high tensile strength makes it ideal for components exposed to significant stress, and its excellent corrosion resistance properties make it a cost-effective solution for a multitude of applications.”
