Rigid Lifelines Supplies Fall Protection to One World Trade Center
Products provide fall protection for to workers from the top floor up to the flashing beacon 1,776 feet above the streets of New York City.
Rigid Lifelines has supplied fall protection to the One World Trade Center spire in New York City.
“We are proud to have designed the system that will help keep the workers of One World Trade Center safer at elevation,” said John Kemp, Rigid Lifelines National Product and Sales Manager.
Rigid Lifelines designed and supplied a total of 1,975 linear feet of fall protection track and the highest self-retracting lanyards in an occupied building to One World Trade Center. This includes horizontal and vertical track systems, which provide continuous fall protection coverage to building maintenance workers from the top floor, to the flashing beacon light at 1,776 feet above the streets of New York City.
“The more unique the scope of work, the more customization is required in order to provide the right fall protection solution,” said Mr. Kemp, “The right fall protection solution for the One World Trade Center project required an immense amount of customization.”
On June 11, 2013, Rigid Lifelines Engineering Manager Arnie Galpin climbed the spire to perform a system inspection. The inspection was the final step in the year long project, which was a collaboration between Rigid Lifelines and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
To tell the story of this project, Rigid Lifelines has launched the site www.safeat1776.com. Visitors will learn about the history of One World Trade Center and its fall protection systems and components.
The website also provides information about design, installation, and inspection details, in addition to photos, and video footage of Mr. Galpin’s climb and inspection.
