Niftylift launches ClipOn, a New Safety Device

Niftylift has launched ClipOn, a retrofittable safety device that gives access platform operators a visual and audible reminder to connect their harnesses before operation.

Niftylift has unveiled ClipOn, a new safety device. When an access platform is switched on, Red LEDs above each harness point indicate that no harness lanyard is attached. An alarm will sound as an additional indication/reminder if the operator tries to activate the machine using the footswitch.

ClipOn represents the new ‘Step One’ in powered access platform safety and is available across Niftylift’s full HeightRider range.

The safety system is active the moment the key switch is turned on. If an operator tries to activate a Niftylift without clipping on, red LED lights above each connection point indicate no safety harness is attached. As an additional reminder, an alarm will then sound if the operator tries to maneuver the machine using the footswitch while unharnessed. Once the harness has been attached correctly, the LED lights will turn green, and the sound alarm stops.

The ClipOn system is clearly visible to ground teams thanks to under-basket LEDs which indicate whether the operator is safely attached to the harness.

“Working at height inevitably involves risks, with falls being one of the most frequent causes of workplace injuries,” said John Keely, managing director at Niftylift. “That’s why ClipOn is crucial. Safety shouldn’t be complicated, and by ensuring every operator is securely harnessed before operating the machine, we’re making a simple but significant move towards eliminating the risk of falls from height.”

The innovative technology is engineered for seamless integration into Niftylift fleets. It has a straightforward installation process that requires only three components, the control box, harness sensor and light array.

The system’s set-up and operation mirrors that found in most modern seatbelt alert systems in cars, helping operators adopt the technology quickly and easily.

Safety reinvented

Robust safety protocols when working at height are essential. The British Safety Council says that sufficient planning and ensuring a safe system of work are essential to mitigate falls from access platforms. Meanwhile the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in North America shares that falling from height remains the leading cause of workplace incidents. By implementing systems like ClipOn, safety is enhanced, and peace of mind is provided for owners, operators and others on the job site.

ClipOn advances job site safety compliance by alerting operators to correct harness connection. The system’s visual and audible indicators also provide irrefutable evidence, simplifying inspections and audits.

Unlike other safety systems that can be complex and intrusive, and impact operational efficiency, ClipOn is simple-to-use and provides immediate feedback leaving no doubt as to whether safe harness connection has been made.
