jobsite lighting

The market for construction jobsite lighting is expanding steadily based on the growing demand for portable and energy efficient solutions across industrial and commercial sectors. While corded options remain an effective option, battery-powered LED products appear to be leading contractor’s lists to light up the dark spaces crews must venture in to complete jobs.

Manufacturers today are producing jobsite lights which are more versatile, portable, and easy to use.

SCANGRIP

Martin Petersen, CEO of SCANGRIP, says there is often a lack of awareness about how good light can help crews do a job better, faster or safer.

SCANGRIP is part of Hultafors Group, a global company offering a portfolio of brands within personal protection, tools, and other equipment for contractors.

“Do not settle for a random light. Better light conditions give you better options and flexibility to work where you want and when you want,” he says. “Daylight is no longer a limitation. Pick the light solutions that will give you the best working conditions for your specific task.”

In addition, Petersen notes that it is important to know that it is not just about choosing the light with the highest lumen number.

“Lumen can be misleading and is often not the best indicator of what light will give you the best working conditions,” he says.

According to Petersen, recent technological developments have opened more opportunities to develop task specific lights and offer more options.

In addition, battery technology is reducing the need for lights of multiple sizes being tied to a power cord.

“This flexibility demonstrates the freedom the tradespeople of tomorrow will have in powering their work lights,” Petersen says. “Another trend is that the coming generations do not settle for less. They are ambitious and want specialized solutions to help them perform at their best.”

He says SCANGRIP is looking at different technologies to give the professional tradesperson maximum freedom with smaller, high-capacity batteries, flexible charging solutions and increased portability.

“Bringing and powering your light should not be a burden,” Petersen says. “Every professional should have convenient access to sufficient light to do an excellent job.”

He says the SCANGRIP’s CONNECT line provides maximum freedom to users. All SCANGRIP lights can be operated with any professional tool battery pack or SCANGRIP’s CONNECT POWER SUPPLY.

“Trade professionals can use their preferred battery platform with the best lights on the market,” Petersen says. “Another breakthrough is the fact that SCANGRIP work lights last and deliver reliable support for work tasks.”

Examples include the AREA 10 CONNECT which features 240 LEDs to provide even light distribution across a work area between 360 degree and 180 degree illumination and the NOVA 10 CONNECT, a floodlight that professionals can count on.

He says it is important for distributors to understand their customers.

“Help them solve the challenges they face during the workday by offering a broad range of lights that will provide the right light in the right place in different scenarios,” Petersen says.

Safety is non-negotiable in construction and lighting is often a critical part of that.

“If trade professionals cannot see, they cannot work and will, therefore, lose time,” he says. “Ensure that you offer a reliable lighting brand backed by customer support, parts and accessory support and solutions that will last.”

FESTOOL

Jobsite lighting is less about brightness and more about control precision and using the right tool for the job.

A high-lumen area light is ideal for illuminating large spaces, but it can be too intense or bulky for close-up or confined work.

“At Festool, we design lighting solutions with both performance and practicality in mind,” says Rick Bush, senior marketing manager at Festool. “Our high-output area lights are dimmable for flexibility, while our compact task lights offer adjustable angles and are easy to maneuver into tight spaces.”

While traditional work lights are still essential, he says there is a growing shift toward integrated, task-specific lighting that enhances tool performance and user precision.

Bush says Festool is embracing this evolution by embedding lighting directly into a wide range of its tools, such as its PLANEX Drywall Sander, new cordless Random Orbit Sanders, jigsaws, reciprocating saws and more featuring 360 degree LED surround lighting.

Citing the cordless sanders specifically, he says the raking light casts across the surface during sanding, making imperfections easier to spot and helping users achieve superior finish results.

“These integrated lights, often positioned to cast raking illumination, enhance visibility right where it matters most, helping users spot imperfections, improve accuracy, and elevate finish quality,” Bush says. “It is a shift from lighting as a separate accessory to lighting as a performance-enhancing feature, and we’re just getting started. As jobsite expectations rise, lighting is no longer about visibility, it’s about enabling craftsmanship, improving efficiency, and delivering flawless outcomes.”

He says the jobsite lighting category is being shaped by a few clear trends, most notably the widespread adoption of LED technology and the growing demand for durability, portability, and cordless convenience.

Bush says LEDs offer brighter output, longer lifespan, and greater resilience to the rigors of the jobsite.

“Today’s professionals expect more than just brightness, they need lights that can withstand dust, debris, moisture, and the occasional drop,” he says. “Portability is also critical; lights must be lightweight for easy transport and compact enough for tight storage.”

With cordless lighting now the dominant format, runtime and battery efficiency have become key development priorities.

“Festool is focused on expanding lighting solutions that enhance productivity across every type of task whether through stand-alone jobsite lights or integrated tool-based illumination,” Bush says. “We’re committed to designing lighting that’s not only bright and durable, but also smartly engineered for the way professionals actually work. Lighting isn’t just an accessory anymore—it’s a performance feature.”
