DEWALT DCT419 Hand Held Wall ScannerLevels & Measurement

Measuring: DEWALT DCT419 Hand Held Wall Scanner

DEWALT introduces its new Hand Held Wall Scanner (DCT419), developed to help locate embedded materials behind walls. The DCT419 can detect wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, plastic, and unshielded live electric wiring behind multiple wall surfaces, including drywall, plywood, concrete, and ceramic tile at a sensing depth of up to 3 inches.

“The new Hand Held Wall Scanner was designed based on extensive user feedback that helped us to enhance the graphical user interface and embedded material detection capabilities, compared to the previous DCT418 model,” says Christine Potter, VP of DEWALT Innovation & Technology. “Designed to stand up to tough conditions on the jobsite, we also optimized the software inside the new Hand Held Wall Scanner to deliver innovative and technical solutions for professionals. An improved detection algorithm senses more commonly embedded materials across construction sites, even such as a nail in a wood stud.”

The Hand Held Wall Scanner is used to scan up to a 9.8-foot wall section in a straight line, either vertically or horizontally. Multiple sensors inside the tool register material type that is most likely behind the wall surface — wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, plastic, and unshielded live electric wiring—and the detection results are displayed on a 3.5-inch LCD color screen.

The Hand Held Wall Scanner features a pre-scan mapping mode that eliminates the need to calibrate or choose between settings. The first pass over the wall surface maps all of the detected embedded materials. When the user reverses the direction, the embedded materials detected are displayed. The Hand Held Wall Scanner also includes a tracking bar that counts the number of embedded materials detected in a scan.

The DCT419 Hand Held Wall Scanner is one of more than 600 DEWALT SKUs that is built in the USA with global materials, and one of many tools in DEWALT’s 12V MAX* lineup that includes an overall ergonomic design for comfort and ease of use.

The new Hand Held Wall Scanner will be available in October through distributors, and isexpected to retail for $399 as a kitted unit (DCT419S1), complete with one DCT419 Hand Held Wall Scanner, one 12V MAX* Lithium Ion battery pack, one charger and a kit box. The DCT419 will come standard with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service contract and 90-day money-back guarantee.

(*Maximum initial battery voltage (measured without a workload) is 12 volts. Nominal voltage is 10.8.)
