The new Carlon Draft-Tight Non-Metallic Box from Thomas & Betts features a flange gasket and cable entry seals that prevent the free flow of air through the box and eliminate the need for caulking and sealants.
Carlon Draft-Tight Non-Metallic Boxes meet the 2012 International Energy Compliance Code (IECC), which is the main insulation code for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
“Not only does the Carlon Draft-Tight Non-Metallic Box meet the IECC, which more than 40 states have adopted,” said Chad Smith, director, product management for Thomas & Betts, "but it also is faster and more cost effective. By eliminating the need to caulk or seal the boxes after installation, we are saving the builder about five hours of installation time for a 2,200 square-foot house.”
Sealing electrical boxes when installed results in more efficient heating of the house in the winter and cooling of the house in the summer, which reduces energy costs for the homeowner. In addition, the Carlon Draft-Tight Non-Metallic Box is constructed of high-strength polycarbonate that will not shatter in cold temperatures or warp in hot temperatures.
