SKIL Power Tools' new generation of routers offer professional features at an affordable, DIY price. The new line includes three models for any level do-it-yourselfer or woodworker—Model Nos. 1817, 1827 and 1830. These versatile woodworking tools are designed for a variety of at home tasks, from countertop installation to more leisurely projects like basic or intricate cutting of patterns and templates.
"The updated design of the SKIL routers provides optimal comfort and control for smooth and professional edges," said Rick Bauer, brand manager, SKIL Power Tools. "These routers will elevate do-it-yourselfers' woodworking projects to the next level."
In addition to designing routers that are more comfortable for the user to operate, SKIL understands that routers can be intimidating. Whether it be the semi-exposed bit or loud motor, some DIYers shy away from this tool. With that said, the engineers at SKIL went on a mission to make a complete line of routers that would be more accepted among intermediate DIYers and beginning woodworkers. Additionally, with SKIL's Soft Start™ Technology, users experience less kickback and smoother start-ups when they turn on the tool. Soft Start™ Technology also increases the router's motor life, because rather than jumping right to top speed, the new SKIL routers gradually increase their speed. A long-lasting motor allows the user to complete more projects, which ultimately leads to continuous project success with SKIL Tools.
Additional highlights in the line of SKIL routers include: micro-fine adjustment for precise depth measurements, an LED SiteLight™ for improved visibility and powered tool alert, a one-half inch collect capacity with a quarter inch collet adapter for larger profile applications, dual position on/off switch for user convenience and better control and soft grip handles for maximum comfort and support.
Beyond the features listed above, each router has specialized capabilities to better assist with specific project needs:
Model No. 1817: 1-3/4 HP Fixed Based Router includes a quick-release lever for easy motor adjustments and removal. This router is perfect for rounding and forming edges, as well as cutting basic patterns in wood.
Model No. 1827: 2 HP Plunge Base Router features a quick-clamp release lever for easy motor adjustments and removal, a depth rod and adjustable turret for repeatable plunge routing applications and variable speed. This router is perfect for making more intricate cuts and designs in wood pieces.
Model No. 1830: 2-1/4 HP Combo Router Kit has the most powerful motor for more demanding projects and features both an aluminum fixed base and an aluminum plunge base to allow users to choose their method of routing. Additional features include a quick-clamp release lever for easy adjustments and removal, a depth rod and adjustable turret for repeatable plunge routing applications and variable speed. The 1830 is ideal for more advanced projects such as counter top installation, cabinet building or detailed woodworking.
Accessories can also be purchased to further enhance routing work. The router edge guide, Model No. 91800 attaches to all three routers to ensure smooth and straight edges. The Model No. RAS131 dust hood accessory attaches to Model No.1817 to provide maximum dust collection for a clean work surface, while the RAS132 dust hood is the companion for the No. 1827 & 1830 models.
