NEFCO Expands Reach with Acquisition of Total Tool Supply

St. Paul-based Total Tool Supply has been acquired by NEFCO, a specialty supply partner to the professional construction trades.


NEFCOIt is the largest acquisition made by NEFCO to date. The company has made 10 acquisitions since 2022, and the addition of Total Tool Supply was the fourth in 2024.

Total Tool has 325 employees and operates 16 locations across eight states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado.

He noted that Total Tool’s focus on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contractors, as well as tools, safety, and contractor supplies, aligns seamlessly with NEFCO.

With the addition of Total Tool's 14 branch locations and two distribution centers, NEFCO has expanded its reach to 59 locations across 28 states, enhancing its ability to provide next day jobsite delivery to contractors nationwide.

Gelles emphasized the strategic significance of the acquisition.

“Three years ago, NEFCO celebrated its 40th anniversary by setting a bold vision to serve contractors at every jobsite across America,” Gelles said. “At that time, we were active in only about 25% of the U.S. construction market, with 13 locations along the eastern seaboard.”

Today, he said NEFCO, thanks in part to the acquisition of Total Tool, NEFCO has locations in over 60% of the construction market nationwide.

“While we’ve made tremendous strides, we still believe we are just beginning our journey of growth at NEFCO,” Gelle said.
