The machine applies LOCTITE to the external threads of E-Z LOK’s threaded inserts. The high strength LOCTITE 204 activates during assembly, giving the inserts stronger torque strength, securing the external threads of the insert in place within the host materials’ tapped hole.
Prior to acquisition of the machine, the task was performed by outside processors for E-Z LOK at an additional expense.
LOCTITE is relevant in several difference markets with a wide range of adhensives in different colors and strengths. This includes threadlocker, which helps threated fasteners stay secure.
Applied between two mating threads, liquid threadlocker adhesives secure nuts, bolts and threaded fasteners in place. After application, the adhesives cure to form a strong bond that prevents loosening, ensuring assemblies retain clamp load over time.
Additional benefits include a reliable extended product life, prevention of galling and corrosion, easy disassembly, high temperature resistance, lower cost per unit, increased machine reliability and reduced inventory cost.
Several factors contributed to E-Z LOK’s purchase of the application machine, namely the desire for greater control of the lead times associated with coating the parts, minimizing costs associated with transporting heavy batches back and forth between processors, as well as greater flexibility to run smaller batches.
The payback period was estimated at 18-24 months. The machine has allowed E-Z LOK only to apply the coating more efficiently and cost effectively, but also in a semi-automated fashion, thus increasing output.
