BuildFax July Report Shows Stabilizing Housing Market

Single-family housing authorizations increased 13.28% year over year but grew just .51% from June to July 2021.


Is the housing market finally beginning to show signs of stabilization? The latest BuildFax Housing Health Report for July 2021 provides insight into the health of the U.S. housing market with a particular focus on single-family housing authorizations and existing housing maintenance trends.

The below key findings for July’s report indicate that new and existing housing activity is experiencing a gradual stabilization:

  • In July, single-family housing authorizations increased 13.28% year over year but remained relatively flat month over month.
  • Maintenance and remodel volumes increased 2.99% and 3.56%, respectively, year over year, yet the pace of growth has slowed.
  • While new construction activity has trended upward on a national level, the recovery has varied among major metros post-pandemic.
