Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced the latest informational DVD release from Woodworker's Journal, entitled "Getting Started in Woodturning."

This DVD demonstrates the fundamental techniques involved in woodturning, including the functionality of turning tools, sharpening, spindle turning, bowl turning, as well as sanding and finishing on the lathe.

The content is designed for guiding beginners as they learn about the craft and attempt their own projects. From understanding how a lathe functions to completing their first project, new woodturners will find guidance and easy-to-follow instruction in "Getting Started in Woodturning."

"Turning is rapidly gaining popularity, as virtually anyone can learn the skills, and the tools don't require a lot of space or a large monetary investment," says Woodworker's Journal Publisher Rob Johnstone. "This DVD is a wonderful resource for beginning woodturners."

Master woodturner Ernie Conover and professional woodworker and author Kimberly McNeelan combine to narrate the projects and demonstrate the turning tools and techniques on the DVD.

Some of the technical skills covered are spindle turning (including cutting coves and beads, using spindle gouges, skews and scrapers), bowl turning (mounting large blanks and mastering the bowl gouge), sanding and finishing on a lathe, plus a bonus section on how to properly sharpen turning tools.

The sharpening section is a particularly valuable because maintaining sharp tools is such a vital skill in achieving top turning results.

The "Getting Started in Woodturning" DVD (57753) is priced at $29.99.
